Tuesday, May 6. 2008DR. JAMES GIRDWOOD RECEIVES THE DIVINE SERVANT AWARDThe Administration of GLCC announced the 2008 Divine Servant Award recipient during Honor's Chapel on April 29. Every year The Administration of GLCC determines the recipient of this award which is the highest award that is given at Great Lakes. The Divine Servant award is given to a person that exemplifies the servant action of our Lord Jesus and the servant spirit of Dr. Brant Lee Doty. Dr. Doty was a long time chancellor, professor and academic dean of Dr. James Girdwood fits the profile of this award. His continued service to the Kingdom has certainly merited this honor. He is a servant of Jesus Christ and models the servant spirit of Dr. Doty. Jim’s brother Bob writes this, “In so many ways Jim has shown the ideals of scholastic excellence and evangelistic preaching passion that was seen in the life and faith of Dr. Doty. My congratulations for an honor well earned.” Jim began is educational journey at General Motors Institute in Flint, Mi and eventually received degrees from Great Lakes Christian College in 1962, Cincinnati Christian University, and Hebrew Union College. Jim was the first Jim has a heart for the local church and the classroom. He has taught in the classrooms of Monday, May 5. 2008JERRY PAUL IS THE 57TH COMMENCEMENT SPEAKERGreat Lakes Christian College Commencement will take place this Saturday, May 10th at 10:00 a.m. in the newly built Doty Center. Twenty four students will walk the stage for the first time in the new Doty Center to receive their diplomas. Jerry Paul, the 8th president of GLCC, will be the speaker. Jerry and his wife Pat reside in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. Friday, May 2. 2008ACAPPELLA CONCERT AT THE DOTY CENTER - September 19, 2008Mark your calendar. Acappella will be in concert on September 19, 2008, at 7:00 p.m., sponsored by the Alumni Association. This Friday evening concert will kick off AlumniFest08 and our 60th Anniversary year. Monday, March 3. 2008DOTY CENTER DEDICATION - March 2Great Lakes Christian College Marks Expansion of Campus at Doty Center Dedication Held Sunday
LANSING, Mich.– This past Sunday, Great Lakes Christian College opened the doors of the new Doty Center to more than 500 students, staff, alumni and community members at a special dedication service. The opening of the Doty Center, a $1.425 million athletic/event facility and community gathering space, marked the expansion of the college’s 47-acre campus located at 6211 W. Willow Highway in Delta Twp. The event included a ribbon cutting, musical performances by the GLCC Concert Choir, and guest speakers including GLCC President Larry Carter and Pastor Mark McGilvrey. A reception followed the service. Housing a gymnasium and stage, the Doty Center will be home to GLCC’s NCAA Division II and intramural athletic teams, along with plays and concerts. It will serve the community by providing space for local events, home school and Christian school programs and other activities. The Doty Center was named for Brant Lee Doty, Ph.D. Known as 'Mr. GLCC,' Doty was involved with the college from 1949 until his death in 1998. As one of the original trustees and founders of the college, he also served as professor, academic dean and chancellor. A graduate of Cincinnati Bible Seminary in Cincinnati, Ohio, Doty received his doctorate in English from Michigan State University in 1969.
