The Administration of GLCC announced the 2008 Divine Servant Award recipient during Honor's Chapel on April 29. 

Every year Great Lakes Christian College awards the Dr. Doty Divine Servant award to a senior student or alumnus whose life has consistently illustrated the life of Dr. Brant Lee Doty.

The Administration of GLCC determines the recipient of this award which is the highest award that is given at Great Lakes.  The Divine Servant award is given to a person that exemplifies the servant action of our Lord Jesus and the servant spirit of Dr. Brant Lee Doty.  Dr. Doty was a long time chancellor, professor and academic dean of Great Lakes.  Dr. Doty touched many lives because of his servant’s heart.

Dr. James Girdwood fits the profile of this award.  His continued service to the Kingdom has certainly merited this honor.  He is a servant of Jesus Christ and models the servant spirit of Dr. Doty.  Jim’s brother Bob writes this, “In so many ways Jim has shown the ideals of scholastic excellence and evangelistic preaching passion that was seen in the life and faith of Dr. Doty.   My congratulations for an honor well earned.”

Jim began is educational journey at General Motors Institute in Flint, Mi and eventually received degrees from Great Lakes Christian College in 1962, Cincinnati Christian University, and Hebrew Union College.  Jim was the first Great Lakes graduate to receive his Ph.D.  His ministerial career includes a youth ministry in Kokomo, Indiana, a new church plant in Breckenridge, Michigan, and presently begins his 33 year doing interim preaching.

Jim has a heart for the local church and the classroom.  He has taught in the classrooms of Great Lakes Christian College, Cincinnati, Lincoln, Ozark, and Kentucky Christian.  You will find Jim’s influence and teaching stretching throughout our country and in foreign lands.

Great Lakes Christian College Commencement will take place this Saturday, May 10th at 10:00 a.m. in the newly built Doty Center.  Twenty four students will walk the stage for the first time in the new Doty Center to receive their diplomas.  Jerry Paul, the 8th president of GLCC, will be the speaker.  Jerry and his wife Pat reside in Ft. Wayne, Indiana.

Great Lakes Christian College makes available several grants and scholarships to students who demonstrate special ability and/or who show financial need.  Over eighty percent of our students receive some form of financial aid.  Seventy percent receive aid directly from the College.  These scholarships are funded by individuals and churches and are made available to the students through application.  We are in constant need for additional funds to award to students to help in their education.

WOMEN’S SPRING CELEBRATION…APRIL 18

Great planning has taken place to make this first Women’s Spring Celebration in the Doty Center a success.  Registration deadline is April 4^th.  The offering project is the Doty Center chairs.  The goal is $20,000 which will buy 500 chairs.  Becky Hammond from Wooster, Ohio will be the guest speaker.  Food will be served at 6:30 p.m.  For questions or information, call Pat Goff at 517-321-0242, ext. 214.

Great Lakes Christian College announces the hiring of Scott Aeder as the new part-time athletic director.  Scott currently coaches the men's basketball team.  Scott began February 1st.

GLCC offers several intercollegiate athletic opportunities.  Being a member of the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA), students can be involved in collegiate competition as a part of their education.  We anticipate a competitive sports program for the fall and are looking for prospective athletes.  If you know of any interested prospective students who would like to play sports after graduation and get an excellent education as well, we ask that you contact one of the coaches or the athletic director.
