An introductory music course with a thematic approach to music appreciation, in which each theme is described along a historical timeline. The course uses an online music library and web-based tools.
MUS 100 functions as one of several classes foundational to the student's understanding of arts and humanities. The study of music in history and culture is important for at least 2 reasons: 1) It encourages appreciation for God's creativity, beauty, order and diversity, and 2) Since music is a significant reflector and influencer of culture, the study of music aids the Christian in understanding his/her current culture, cultural heritage and other cultures around the world.
